The present day:

Brian is an experienced lawyer. Over his 45 plus years legal career he has advised clients on matters relating to property conveyancing, commercial law, elder law, family trusts, wills and estates and a wide variety of other general legal practice matters. He does property conveyancing both residential and business, elder law including residential care agreements, enduring powers of attorney for welfare and property, wills and estates, family trust structures, administration and asset protection, commercial contracts, commercial leasing, structuring and franchise agreements.

Wise Owl Legal Limited acts for personal clients and small to medium sized businesses. Brian is its managing director. He lives in Waikanae on the Kapiti Coast. He has office space in Paraparaumu, Waikanae and Wellington. He maintains a close reciprocal role with chosen Lawyers in Wellington to benefit local clients with their additional and complementary legal services.

Legal and Business Qualifications:

Bachelor of Laws Otago University - solicitor 1970, Barrister 1972, graduated May 1973. Diploma of Business Administration 1985 Victoria University, Wellington. Diploma in Corporate Management 1990 NZ Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators Inc. (now Governance New Zealand Inc.) Qualified as a chartered secretary.

Work experience:

Magistrates Court (now District Court) 5 years after leaving Timaru Boys High 1960. Returned to full-time study for a Bachelor of Laws degree. Litigation lawyer 1971 to 1981, mostly in private practise partnership in Levin. Then corporate quasi-government positions for 14 years in Wellington with Accident Compensation Corporation, then Coal Corporation as in-house Legal Counsel and Company Secretary, then Capital Coast Health (Wellington Hospital) in the same role. By 1994 -95 he returned to private practise as a sole practitioner under the name Brian Geary Law Office, in central Wellington. He merged his law practise with Stephens Lawyers, Wellington in July 2016. He now practises separately under Wise Owl Legal Limited on the Kapiti Coast.
